Regulatory Compliance at Tait
What is Regulatory Compliance?
Radio communications has become an important economic and social resource worldwide.
To preserve and gain maximum benefit from this resource, most countries now have regulations requiring radio communications equipment to comply with technical performance standards.
Manufacturers are also required to demonstrate compliance to their country's radio spectrum regulator, before the equipment can be legally supplied.
Demonstration of compliance can be either by a Supplier Declaration of Conformity or by issue of a Type Approval Certificate.
A Supplier Declaration of Conformity is a declaration made by the equipment supplier that the equipment has been tested by an accredited laboratory and shown to comply with relevant mandated standards.
Type Approval is granted when a test report from an accredited laboratory, or a sample submitted to the regulator, shows the equipment satisfies all regulatory requirements.
Regulatory Compliance Requirements
Requirements vary widely between regulators and encompass some or all of the following standards:
- Radio frequency performance
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Electrical Safety
- Intrinsic Safety
- Telecommunications Terminal
- Automotive EMC
- Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
- Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
- Effects of radiation on humans
Maintaining regulatory compliance is a complex process. Evolving technologies and regular performance standard revisions require constant monitoring to ensure that suppliers' radio communications equipment continues to meet regulatory compliance requirements.
Tait Electronics is committed to ensuring its products comply with regulatory requirements in all of its markets.
