TaitNet finds a Home in a Castle
Date : July 26, 2002
Arundel Castle in West Sussex, England, is home to nearly 1000 years of history - and the latest in TaitNet trunked radio technology.
The castle, which is set in magnificent grounds overlooking the Arun River, is the home of furniture dating back to the 16th Century and portraits by Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Lawrence.
Castle staff were using old back-to-back radios prior to looking for a new system that would provide better coverage, particularly as some of the castle's walls are two metres thick.
R.S. Hill and Sons, the Tait dealer based at Fareham, Hampshire, recognised the customer benefits of a TaitNet trunked radio system using the cost-effective T1810 channel controller.
The UHF system was fitted with special "down-fire" antennas and installed in one of the castle towers.
Staff at the castle, using Tait Orca 5000 portables, have excellent coverage within the buildings and the vast surrounding grounds.
"Low-tier MPT 1327 trunking would probably not have been a suitable solution a few years back because of the price," according to R.S. Hill and Sons Communications Sales Manager, Barry Turner.
"Today we are happy for our customers to benefit from the increased features the technology provides. We are confident the system will meet every requirement expressed by staff at Arundel Castle."
R.S. Hill and Sons has a long pedigree with MPT 1327 trunked radio, having owned and operated a network in the south of England for many years.
