Tait Orca portables are well known for their durability but there have been a few occasions recently where this has been stretched to the limit.... and beyond.

After a recent fire in Greece, a Tait Orca portable (pictured) was pulled from the debris left by the flames. Despite a mangled exterior appearance of molten plastic, the radio was found to be in perfect working order once a battery was attached.

The same was true of another Orca portable in South Africa which suffered a similar fate, but yet still seems to be operational.

Although tested to the stringent IP standards, some Tait dealers are prepared to go a little further when proving the ruggedness of the Orca series when it comes to water resistance.

At a recent demonstration to the Indonesian Police, one of Tait South East Asia's dealers totally immersed a Tait Orca in a bucket of water - slightly beyond the IP splash proof rating of the portable! After its bath the Orca, like after the fires, was found to be in working order.
