The Tait Structure and Culture
With 70 years experience in the radio communications industry, Tait Electronics founder Sir Angus Tait recognised the value of a solid organisational structure.
Tait is a privately owned company. Sir Angus transferred the company shareholding into charitable trusts to ensure the continuance of his successful philosophies, such as the reinvestment of profit, local ownership and core operations, and the fostering of a successful electronics industry in Christchurch.
These tenets have ensured Tait's success for four decades, and are your assurance of quality products and support in the decades to come.
Sir Angus created a company charter based around two trusts: one appoints the company directors but receives none of the profits; the other has no influence in the company's decision-making but is responsible for the distribution of some profits for scholarships and other education-related causes.
The charter also outlines the doctrines that should underpin the company's management in the future.
Company culture
Sir Angus was also very aware of the value of motivated staff, and instilled a culture of self-belief in the company. Staff share a 'can-do' attitude and are motivated to make a difference. The reinvestment of profit, international success and generous staff welfare initiatives (group wide profit share, subsidised retirement savings, health care and social club, and a student loan repayment scheme) ensure low staff turnover and high morale.
At the heart of the company's culture is an understanding that customers' mobile communications needs differ. The company must be responsive to users' needs and must remain focussed on the future.
Sir Angus' catch-cry was often heard around the Tait campus: "The best is yet to come."
