Tait Showcases Latest P25 Products
Date : July 4, 2006
Tait demonstrated crystal clear digital audio with minimal delay at the Oceania launch of its new fully P25 compliant 9000 series products, during the recent ANZ-APCO Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
The 9000 series mobiles and portables were a highlight of the conference, with many attendees commenting that the digital audio from Tait mobiles and portables was crisper and clearer than many competitors' products.
The ANZ-APCO conference is a meeting of the best minds and most respected figures to discuss and showcase current innovations and advancements in the field of public safety communications.
Tait's 9000 series mobile and portable radios have industry leading clear digital audio even in noisy backgrounds, which is highly valuable for emergency services and public safety officials where there is often no time to repeat messages and sirens are blaring.
The company's P25 product range will be showcased for the first time in the US, at the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) in Las Vegas from April 6 to 8.
Tait Product Manager for P25 Terminals Lyle Johnson says the demonstration of the new 9000 series mobiles and portables at the ANZ-APCO conference highlighted strong features such as minimal audio delay.
"Tait 9000 series mobiles and portables have minimal audio delay. Digital communication often has a noticeable delay when the voice is digitised," Mr Johnson says.
"The audio delay between the two radios in simplex mode was so low that some people initially did not believe that we were demonstrating digital voice calls. They had to listen very carefully before they could notice the digital delay," he says.
The new 9000 series radios are the latest products from Tait that will deliver effective and reliable communications for the public safety industry at an affordable price.
These products include TP9100 portable radios, TM9155 mobile radio and TB9100 base station and network infrastructure, providing a complete P25 product range.
Tait Product Manager for P25 Infrastructure Dr Jan Noordhof says the Tait TB9100 base stations received plenty of attention at the ANZ-APCO conference. Many positive comments came from delegates about the smart and user friendly features such as the built-in voting capability.
"Whilst many competitors base stations require expensive external voters, the TB9100 has this built-in as a software feature. Voting refers to selecting the channel with the best audio or signal strength, which helps ensure important calls can be heard properly and not missed," Mr Noordhof says.
He says P25 will be the technology of choice in the future for the emergency services, public safety officials and others that demand interoperability.
"Interoperability is the ability for neighbouring agencies, such as different services in the same territory, to communicate with each other, which is particularly useful in an emergency.
"The P25 standards means that P25 equipment from various manufacturers can work together, which also assists interoperability. The new Tait 9000 series of portables, mobiles and base stations is fully compliant with globally recognised P25 standards for public safety radio communications," Mr Noordhof says.
P25 is a full set of radio communications standards that provides the basis for interoperable digital radio voice and data for public safety users, departments and agencies. The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) organisation is the driver of Project 25 (P25).
The P25 standard was created by and for public safety and communications professionals to provide detailed standards for the design of communications systems so that all purchasers of P25 compatible equipment can communicate with each other.
