A Note from Sir Angus Tait - January 2007
I was recently honoured to receive the Fred M. Link Award from the Radio Club of America which, having been founded in 1907, is the oldest radio club in the world. My deepest gratitude to the club's organisers and members.
I regret I was unable to attend the New York ceremony in person but Bill Fredrickson, President of Tait Mobile Radio Inc, USA, attended in my stead.
In the last edition of Tait Update, I wrote about the building momentum of our digital offering, so I thought that this time I would focus on the value of our other proven technologies. For example, MPT 1327 is seeing a resurgence as organisations realise the substantial benefits of such a flexible platform.
This trunked technology is utilised by Telstra in its Victoria State Mobile Radio Network upgrade, Siemens in their London Bus upgrade, and by Basin Electric and a growing number of other North American utilities.
I remember well our involvement in one of the very first MPT 1327 networks installed in London for British Telecom during the 1980s and our accumulated experience, worldwide, since then, with hundreds of installed sites, gives credence to our claim of world leadership in the technology.
You may have noticed one obvious change about this external/customer newsletter - Tait Update is now available electronically rather than on paper! This quarterly online Update is a more flexible way of communicating with our dealers and valued partners across the world.
And there will be a lot to communicate throughout 2007! Two new portables will be launched: the more compact "entry-level" TP7110 and the feature-rich TP8000 range. There will be updates on a host of other upgrades, customisations and new developments. Also, there will no doubt be news of more successful MPT 1327 trunked installations.
I hope you all have a prosperous start to 2007!
