Tait mobiles twice as useful
Tait Electronics Limited’s TM8200 mobile is twice as versatile with the release of a dual control head. The new function has been made available with the introduction of Release 4 and will be available on the TM8250 and TM8255 mobiles.
In a dual head radio system, elements of the user interface, such as display content, internal speaker audio and LEDs, are duplicated on both control heads. This enables multiple users to share the same radio, for example emergency response teams, especially when crew members have to be split between the front and the back of a response vehicle (as shown on the right). Each control head is attached to the radio body via a 6m (19ft) remote cable, effectively allowing two users to be up to 12m apart while communicating.
Multi-lingual improvements
Another new feature of the TM8200 range will be of benefit to potentially more than half a billion people. The firmware and programming application now supports French and Latin American Spanish, while still being available in English.
An option within the programming application will allow the user to select the desired language. The action will cause both the PC display and radio display to adopt the selected language simultaneously when the radio is reprogrammed.
Additional data capabilities
The TM8250 in conventional mode can now support and display short data messages (SDMs) of up to 127 characters. When a message is received it is displayed to the user and stored, until it is deleted or a subsequent message is received, which will overwrite the previously held text. Multi-line messages can be scrolled using the up/down toggle keys.
