The Customer
The Gongan - or the Chinese Civil Police - is the largest police force in the world.
The Challenge
More than 100 Gongan bureaux or district police across China are using Tait trunked radio equipment to keep in touch.
More than 70 separate TaitNet systems are installed in China. In the province of Hubei alone, 17 sets of TaitNet MPT 1327 or TaitNet 5100 networks are used by more than 40 different bureaux, in 33 cities.
In Shandong Province there are 16 cities where police stations are networked. More than 17 sets of T1541 systems were installed in this province and over 100 base stations are in operation. Most areas of Shandong Province are now connected.
The Shanghai Police Bureau operate the TaitNet 5100 MPT 1327 wide area trunked network system and a QS2 Simulcast System.
The Solution
The Gongan chose a special numbering scheme to identify individual users and groups of users so Tait developed software to accommodate this. Called LMS the customised numbering system has some advantages over traditional number scheme for TaitNet systems (MPT 1343).
For example the Gongan - which places a lot of inter-fl eet calls - can place these by dialling just five digits compared with the MPT 1343's six or seven digits. LMS also provides inter-fleet caller identification.
While there are advantages to both number schemes most trunked radio system users are likely to find the standard MPT 1343 system more flexible.
