Bus Fleets to Benefit from Tait’s Fast New Data Speeds
Date : December 20, 2006
Bus operators can soon improve their customer service and provide accurate real-time passenger information by implementing Tait's
ground-breaking new high-speed TaitNet Data System (TNDS).
"In the face of uncertain communications costs and system availability, the appeal of a private trunked voice and data solution remains its cost-effectiveness, simplicity and flexibility," says Michael Chick, Managing Director of Tait Electronics.
"Tait is soon to introduce a powerful breakthrough innovation which, when polling at up to 15 updates per second on a single data channel, really starts to influence a bus company's customer service because more frequent updates leads to more accurate information."
This new MPT 1327 trunked solution will be available from the second quarter of 2007.
"While delivering bus communications solutions in places as varied as Oslo, Vienna, Dublin, Leicester and London, we have built up a skilled team who excel in helping design, install, integrate, support and adapt TNDS for a particular customer's need."

At typical polling speeds for a large fleet on a trunked solution, AVL data or roadside information screens can run a few minutes behind an actual bus's time and position.
"Showing a passenger that the bus is about to arrive, when actually it has already gone, is a major service issue affecting perceptions of punctuality and customer care," Michael says.
TaitNet Data System - meeting bus operators' practical needs
As well as customer benefits, TNDS will offer commercial gains. Compatibility with existing RTPI equipment and an upgrade path from voice-only to added-data are the hallmarks of a solution that is geared to the practical needs of bus operators.
"While delivering bus communications solutions in places as varied as Oslo, Vienna, Dublin, Leicester and London, we have built up a skilled team who excel in helping design, install, integrate, support and adapt TNDS for a particular customer's need."
As bus companies adapt to changes in urban planning, passenger needs, environmental legislation and their competitive environment they are looking for efficient and pragmatic technologies that deliver real business benefits today.
"Voice services and wide coverage have always been mainstays of a trunked solution including group calling by route, all-fleet broadcasts or individual conversations. TNDS will bring faster data into the equation - Tait is experienced and dedicated to keeping the solution moving forward," Michael says.
The polling rate breakthrough is a sign of things to come from Tait. "This fast data solution represents a performance improvement that will mean a major enhancement of a bus fleet's customer service and operational management. Tait intends to keep listening, innovating and delivering what bus companies and system integrators need," he concludes.
