Viewing

There are several different views to display images or information in TaitMedia.

To view and download the selected images click on My Selection in the grey toolbar. To get back to the thumbnails from My Selection click on Thumbnail View. Try to avoid using the back button on your browser.

Thumbnail View

The thumbnail view displays a thumbnail size view of the image, the file name and the file type.

If there are more than 20 images (or one page), use the arrows and page numbers to navigate between the pages of thumbnails (as below).

The files can be sorted by the date the file was last amended or the file name by changing the "Sort By" options. This is a useful feature to see the latest additions.

Sort By

In the thumbnail view, sort images by the Date Amended or File Name on the top right of the screen. Click here for more information about sorting files.

Information View

When an image is clicked in the thumbnail view, you will be taken to the information view. The information view displays the:

  • File name
  • File type (file format)
  • Caption
  • Copyright; and
  • Photographer.

To get back to the thumbnail view click "Thumbnail View" or "Back to Thumbnails" on the left side of the page.

My Selection View

To add images to My Selection tick the box below the image in the thumbnail view. The image will automatically be added to My Selection although the thumbnail view screen will appear no different.

Slideshow View

To open the slideshow click the grey button "Slideshow View". Depending on your Internet connection, the slideshow may take some time to load.

To exit the slideshow click on the blue arrow, as in the example below.

Searching

TaitMedia provides different ways to search for images: by Category or Quicksearch.

Search by Category

The simplest way to browse through images is to use the category tree on the left-hand side of the screen. Clicking on a category will display all images which have been assigned to that category and all sub-categories below it.

For example, clicking on Base Stations will reveal all images assigned to base stations (category), TB9100 (sub-category), TB8100 (sub-category) and TB7100 (sub-category). Clicking on the TB7100 category will only reveal images in the TB7100 category as there are no sub-categories below it.

To expand a category (to reveal sub-categories), click on the plus symbol to the left of the text in the category tree (not the word). When a category is fully expanded it will show a minus symbol. When a sub-category is fully expanded it will show a grey arrow, indicating there are no categories below it. To ensure that you are seeing the images in that category, click on the category name.

As images are added to TaitMedia, more categories will be added accordingly.

QuickSearch

If you know the image you are looking for it may be quicker to use the Quicksearch.

The Quicksearch is found at the top right of the screen in the blue box. Enter a term into the search box (for example, mobiles) and press enter. The results will then be shown in the thumbnail or information view.

Note that the TaitMedia Quicksearch will not search the TaitWorld website.

Downloading

In the thumbnail view select a file (or more than one file) by ticking the relevant tick boxes. The act of ticking places the chosen file into My Selection. Note that when you tick more than one file the browser will automatically pop back to the top.

Next, click on the link to My Selection in the grey toolbar.

Under My Selection, choose to download the image PowerPoint or for Print using the drop-down box. The default setting if for PowerPoint/web use. This may be adequate for print, depending on the size of reproduction.

Although the file type says tiff, if you download it for PowerPoint it will download as a jpg (see downloading FAQs).

Files for print use can be very large and take some time to download.

Download the image individually, individually as a zip file or download all images using the "Download All Files in a Zip Archive" found at the bottom of the My Selection page.

To remove an image from My Selection untick the tick box. The file will be removed from My Selection.

It is important to end the session each time you have finished downloading your files from TaitMedia. This ensures that the files from My Selection are removed so you can start fresh at your next session.

FAQs and Additional Information

Why can't I view images from my search?

If you have been in the information view TaitMedia will default to this setting. Click on thumbnail view to display all images in your search.

How do I sort the images in the thumbnail view?

The files can be sorted by the date the file was last amended or the file name. This is a useful feature to see the latest additions. In the top right area above the thumbnails, change the Sort By, to Date Amended, or File Name using the drop down arrow. To change the order of the thumbnails click on the blue arrow to the right of the drop down arrow.

For file name, the arrow will display in:

  • Alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order.

For Date Amended the arrow will display:

  • The most recently amended image or the oldest image.

Searching

How can I search for more than one keyword?

If you want to search for an item consisting of two or more words, you have to set up the search to connect the search fields with an "and". You must connect the search items with &&. If you search for TM8105 && Front, Quicksearch will find records that contain the words TM8105 and Front.

You can also combine two or more words by using quotation marks. Then the Quicksearch regards the collection of words in double quotation marks as one search item.

For example:

  • Searching for TM8105 Front, will find images that contain all the images with "TM8105" in one of the searched fields and all of the images with "front" in the searched field
  • Searching for TM8105 && Front will find an image with both TM8105 and Front, but the terms may not be next to each other
  • If you search for "TM8105 Front", Quicksearch will find images with the exact phrase TM8105 Front: the words must be beside each other.

You can also set up the search to exclude items from the result. Then the excluded item must be preceded by a - (minus symbol). If you search for TM8105&&-Rear, Quicksearch will find images that contain TM8105 in any record field but not Rear in any record field.

Can I search by Baan code?

If you know the Baan code of the accessory, you can search for accessories by Baan code. Please note you can only search for products by name because Baan codes are not loaded into the keywords for products.

Baan codes are loaded into accessories using letters, numbers and hyphens (TaitMedia is not case sensitive). For example TMAA20-04 will find the Adaptor for TM8000 mobile radios.

What fields does the Quicksearch search?

TaitMedia searches the keywords, category names and file names.

Each image has relevant keywords attached to every image. This information is known as metadata, and uses the web standard IPTC to store this information. You will not be able to view the keywords using your Internet browser. However if you download the image you will be able to view the keywords if you have an IPTC compatible program, such as PhotoShop.

Categories are found on the left-hand side of the TaitMedia window and look like a windows directory. Clicking on a category, such as Products, will display all images which have been assigned to that category and all sub-categories below it (see Search by Category, above).

A file name is the name of the file. For example, an image named "TM8105 Front" will show the front display of a TM8105.

Downloading

Why do my files download as a jpg?

If you are downloading the image for PowerPoint/Web, TaitMedia will convert your file into a 72DPI jpg (read more about DPI here).

Why do the files for print download as different file types?

Downloading an image for print use will download the original file, which is the highest resolution possible for that image. This is usually 300DPI but can vary depending on the image. TaitMedia does not use a converter for these files so you will normally download a tiff file or a jpg. Note that these files can be large.

Am I able to select the image from the Information view?

No, this is not possible. To add the image to My Selection go back to the thumbnail view by either clicking Back to Thumbnails (below image) OR Thumbnail View (above image), THEN tick the tick box. Selected images will automatically appear in My Selection.

Why does the downloaded file size differ between files?

The size of the file you download depends on the original size of the file. If you are having problems with a specific image being too large for PowerPoint/Web, please contact taitmedia@taitworld.com.

How do I download zip files?
You will need to ensure you have a zipping programme such as winzip or Ra (for PCs) or StuffIt Expander (for Mac).

Download these programs for free here:

To download the image in a zip individually click "Download Zipped File". To download all files click "Download All Files in a Zip Archive" (found at the bottom of the page). A dialogue box will then appear and give you the option to save the file or open the file - save the file.

Does TaitMedia use cookies?

A small number of harmless cookies are used for each session and expire when the session ends.

TroubleShooting FAQs

Why can't I view the thumbnails?

You are probably in the information view. Click on Thumbnail View (above the thumbnail image) or Back to Thumbnails (below the thumbnail image).

Why is it taking so long to download?

The TaitMedia system is optimised to deliver images for PowerPoint and web use. When downloading an image for print many of the files are very large and can take a few minutes to process (or longer on a dial-up connection). The dialogue box which appears may appear to be frozen, but most likely it will be loading.

If you are finding that it is taking a very long time try leaving the downloading to run while you are using applications, or leave it overnight. If you continue to have issues downloading or wish to provide feedback please contact taitmedia@taitworld.com.

Why can't I open a session?

If you have bookmarked the link to the image library, ensure that the address

http://taitmedia.taitworld.com:8080/TaitMedia/Standard is entered rather than

http://taitmedia.taitworld.com:8080/TaitMedia/Standard/SelectCatalogAuto.jsp

If you are still having problems, bookmark this link.

Do I need to get permission to use these images?

All images on TaitMedia are royalty free and remain the property of Tait Electronics Limited. Permission is granted for a variety of uses with certain conditions. Read our copyright information here.

Why is there an error message?

Try closing your session and begin a new one. If you are having persistent issues, please contact taitmedia@taitworld.com. Please note that this is not a 24-hour email account but we will aim to respond within 48 hours (Monday to Friday GMT+12).

File Types, Sizes and Resolution

File Types

JPG is a commonly used standard method of compression for photographic images. All images downloaded for the web or PowerPoint will be JPGs.

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a flexible and adaptable file format which is mainly used for photography and storing images. Many original image files on TaitMedia are .tiffs.

Resolution

Dots per inch (DPI) is a measure of printing resolution; in particular the number of individual dots of ink a printer or toner can produce within a linear one-inch (2.54 cm) space.

When downloading files from TaitMedia, the web/PowerPoint option will automatically convert the file to a 72DPI jpg. This may also be adequate for digital printing.

The resolution of the images for print depends on the original file. The file would normally be 300DPI in a tiff or jpg format.
