Light Rail

Tait radio communications solutions have been deployed in a number of light rail projects around the world, where rugged and reliable communications are one of the main requirements.

Light rail vehicles are regularly moving hundreds of people at a time and the economic ramifications for poor service delivery are significant. The radio products forming Tait’s complete solution have been designed to withstand constant service under extreme conditions - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Tait has a solution for both large and small light rail operators, and can deliver many features including:

• A range of data services from basic status to mobile data terminals
• Telemetry and SCADA for signaling and operational parameters

Transit Bus

More than 35,000 Tait radios are in use in buses around the world, from the busiest parts of London to the remote outback of Australia.

Tait has listened to feedback from many of these operators and incorporated a number of suggestions into the design of products and solutions for the transit bus industry.

Safety is of paramount importance to operators, with both customers and staff benefiting from many of the features incorporated into these products.  A Tait solution can also help to maintain timetable compliance, thus improving the quality of the service delivered to the customer.

Data capability can be enabled within all mobile products. This includes:

• Automatic Vehicle Location information (AVL)
• Passenger counting
• Real Time Passenger Information services (RTPI)
• Driver messaging including headway notification
• Vehicle performance and pre-fault alarming

Paratransit

Tait has been providing radio communications solutions to demand/response-based people mover services for over 30 years.

Radio communications is critical as a safety lifeline when these service users are vulnerable and isolated. A Tait solution can also be used to quickly and accurately pinpoint the location of paratransit vehicles - required for safe operation as well as planning the best use of vehicles.

Tait mobile radios have in-built data capability as standard, allowing GPS or other dead reckoning sensors to be plugged into the radio. This feature can be polled by a central application or be activated to send location details in the event of panic button activation. Another important Tait radio feature for paratransit services is alarm call out and voice operation, meaning the driver does not need to operate the radio during an emergency situation.
