Tait Radio Communications is participating in the P25 ISSI Group Call using the new Project 25 (P25) Inter RF Sub-system Interface (ISSI) standard. Conducted at IWCE in Las Vegas, the Multi-Vendor P25 ISSI Interoperability Demonstrations are an important step forward in enabling public safety agencies to have a higher level of communications interoperability.

The Multi-Vendor P25 ISSI Interoperability Demo shows connectivity between different vendors' systems. Today, users with P25 radios can roam from one network to another network, but when roaming across unconnected networks, communications back to the home network and dispatchers can be lost. Once ISSI is completed, the P25 ISSI interface will enable two or more trunked, P25 networks to be connected at the network layer.

The P25 ISSI will provide roaming across multiple networks while enabling dispatchers to monitor operations and communicate with users outside the coverage area of their "home" network.

Products based on ISSI offer potentially significant benefits to public safety as they enable networks and radios from different manufacturers to connect over a common standardised interface. Ultimately, the ISSI allows public safety agencies to have a new and higher level of interoperability than was previously possible and promises to improve inter-agency coordinated responses to large-scale events.

"Tait is proud to be part of the select few companies who provide a trunked solution which can interoperate using ISSI," says Michael Chick, Managing Director of Tait Electronics.
