The Customer

The Town of Oyster Bay is a local authority at Long Island New York providing public services for 375,000 residents. The municipality has about 600 vehicles including road construction, snow ploughs, rubbish collection trucks and shoreline services.

The Challenge

The Town of Oyster Bay needed to upgrade its 30 year old mobile communication system because it wasn't providing coverage across the local authority's entire jurisdiction. The Town of Oyster Bay required a solution that would give it increased coverage to and from mobiles, however, there were some limitations: additional channels were unavailable and there wasn't the budget to replace the entire mobile fleet.

The Solution

The Town of Oyster Bay chose a TaitNet QS Simulcast system in consultation with Tait and local dealer Telecom Communications. The system gives the authority coverage through the Town of Oyster Bay including the previously out-of-range shorelines.

Quasi-Sync is ideal for a local authority, giving staff - spread over a wide area - access to the same information. Quasi-Sync is a low maintenance form of simulcast that provides simultaneous transmission of the same frequency from many transmitters.

It uses advanced technology to overcome the expensive maintenance normally associated with simulcast systems, which suffer from distorted audio in areas where transmitter coverage overlaps.

By significantly cutting maintenance costs, Quasi-Sync has proved attractive to publicly funded organisations like municipalities.
