Tait's successes in the competitive US market continue with the installation of a TaitNet MPT 1327 system at Mohegan Sun Casino, the world's second largest.

Situated in the scenic foothills of South East Connecticut, Mohegan Sun is the premier gaming, entertainment and meeting destination of the East Coast of the US. Everything at the Mohegan Sun Casino is done on a grand scale; there are nearly 10,000 slot machines, over 9,500 staff, parking for over 12,500 cars and 40,000 visitors a day.

For such a huge entertainment complex, it was vital that when they decided to undertake a major US$1.1 billion refit that the communications network was not exempt from scrutiny.

When it came to replacing the existing system, the casino was faced with two options - move to an expensive proprietary Quasi-Sync system and 850 radios, or employ a cost effective TaitNet MPT 1327 system with 12 channels and 1500 radios.

"We found that MPT 1327 was equivalent, or better, than all other trunking systems available" saysJake Star, Director of Technical Support, Mohegan Sun.

"The Tait solution was the clear winner; at less than an eighth of the cost of their existing suppliers upgrade and with its open protocol, it was clear that the Tait system would be hard to beat on performance, reliability and price " says Jason Cox, Tait Systems Product Manager.

Over 98% coverage across the two sq mile site is achieved with the TaitNet system - impressive considering that the casino building has 2ft thick roof and walls. A leaky feeder system - similar to that installed in Auckland's Sky Tower - supplies coverage inside the 34-storey hotel, running the length of the building, top to bottom.

As well as the excellent site coverage, group communications have been improved with the TaitNet system - there are now 50 call groups across the reservation, including security, transportations and emergency.
