Tait Radios Flying High With Steve Fossett
Date : April 28, 2003
Tait T2000 mobiles were soaring with adventurer Steve Fossett when he recently set new world gliding records in New Zealand's South Island.
Fossett teamed up with local pilot Terry Delore to break two Open Class world records - for the 500km triangular course and 1000km out and back distances - the latter averaging a speed of 180kph.
At the same time another local pilot, Nick Reekie, took advantage of ideal gliding conditions to set a new mark for the 15m Class 500km course.
Tait provided the mobiles for communication between the gliders and support crew on the ground after earlier assisting with Fossett's world altitude record attempt.
Fossett, Delore and Reekie plan to team up again in New Zealand in August for another crack at the altitude record, before looking to break their own distance marks in December.
