A large catering operation at Lisbon Airport, Portugal, is using a TaitNet T1810 trunked radio system to improve its fleet's responsiveness and efficiency.

CateringPor - Catering de Portugal S.A. serves 26,000 meals at Lisbon Airport daily. The company has a fleet of 32 vehicles - 20 trucks, four fast delivery vans and eight support cars - and uses 12 loading bays.

CateringPor is part of the world's largest catering company, the LSG Sky Chef network.

CateringPor was searching for a real time tool that would allow it to further streamline its operations without compromising customer service or security.

Airport operations can be extremely demanding, mainly due to tight security issues, short time margins and limited physical space.

Delays and rule breaching are extremely expensive on both company finances and reputation, in an industry where competition is fierce and margins are continuously shrinking.

A TaitNet T1810 MPT 1327 trunked radio system was deployed for CateringPor, providing staff with all the tools they need for efficient communications.

Staff can communicate via private one-to-one, fleet or group calls depending on their particular job, with different priority levels available.

An AVL system installed by Tait for CateringPor, CarTrac, means operations staff can now see exactly where each delivery truck is in real time - enabling them to reply to customer queries and accurately respond to unforeseen delays or issues.

The AVL application gives CateringPor staff the ability to know which truck is best suited to make the next delivery, and when other vehicles will be available for further deliveries and pick-ups.

Before CarTrac was implemented, CateringPor drivers used radios to inform operations staff of their position and status.
