Tait has been named as a finalist in the inaugural Champion Canterbury Awards, which recognise business success in the company's home province.

One of three finalists in the Champion Global Operator category, Tait was selected because of its international success, with products in use in about 160 countries, and because it's the largest commercial employer in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The award organisers said the finalists were "an outstanding cross-section of successful businesses that reflect the dynamic, innovative and global outlook of the Canterbury economy.

"The Awards are a fantastic opportunity to thank and congratulate the risk takers and innovators in our community who provide our jobs, careers and quality of life, and who fund health, welfare and education in this country."

The winners will be announced at an awards dinner on 2 October.
