Customised Tait T2020 mobile radios are helping the US Civil Air Patrol, the civilian auxiliary of the US Air Force, to save lives throughout the United States.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has more than 60,000 volunteer members who train for and carry out disaster relief and search and rescue missions throughout the US.

CAP had very specific performance requirements for its radio communications and chose the modified Tait T2020 mobile radio as the first new narrowband VHF FM radio for use in its nationwide emergency services programme.

The modification of the T2020 provided CAP with the ability to switch each radio from wideband to narrowband.
