Tait will be on board with New Zealand's challenge for international sport's oldest prize, the America's Cup yachting campaign in Valencia, Spain in 2007.

Tait has again signed up as an official Team Supplier to the Emirates Team New Zealand syndicate, having supported the Auckland defence of the trophy in 2003.

The encrypted analogue mobile communications equipment Tait provided for the cup defence has been updated for use in the preparations for the preliminary regattas.

Tait Communications Manager Andrew Trevelyan says it's envisaged that the analogue equipment will eventually be replaced by APCO P25 digital equipment.

"We will be launching the first of our conventional P25 products early-mid 2005," Mr Trevelyan said. "The privacy and call clarity of our new digital equipment would be well suited to use at the America's Cup, where security and effective communications have long been important."

While radio communications equipment between the racing yachts and support vessels cannot be used during the America's Cup races, effective communication is vital in training and on race days in the lead up to the start gun.
